It is important to make certain you have the right type of fire extinguisher on hand to put out common household fires. Select an extinguisher that is large enough to put out a small fire, but not so heavy as to be difficult to handle. Once you follow the steps below, you need to be able to easily operate one.
(P.A.S.S. method)
P. Pull the pin to discharge the extinguisher. A. Aim at the base of the fire. S. Squeeze the top handle or lever to release the pressurized extinguishing agent in the extinguisher.
S. Sweep from side to side until the fire is completely out. In case it re-ignites, repeat the last 3 steps.
There are four primary types of fire extinguishers, each designed to put out different kinds of fires.
Class A extinguishers will put out fires in ordinary combustibles such as wood and paper Class B extinguishers are for use on flammable liquids like grease, gasoline and oil Class C extinguishers are suitable for use only on electrically energized fires Class D extinguishers are designed for use on flammable metals
An oxygen cylinder is intended for the safe storage of compressed medical oxygen at high pressure. Portable oxygen cylinders are generally used in ambulances, hospital emergency units and homes.
The whole body of cylinders made of aluminum stands up well to damage and will not rust. Cylinders are relatively small, yet they hold large volumes of compressed gas. Its oxygen regulator features a brass core for maximum safety. When compressed oxygen gas is released from a portable oxygen cylinder, the high pressure inside the cylinder forces oxygen outward. The release of pressure creates the oxygen liter flow that travels to your desired oxygen delivery device.
How to use
1Make sure the flow regulator knob is set at zero. 2 Make certain if the T-handle is tight. 3 Place the cylinder wrench on the cylinder’s on/off valve, located at the top of the cylinder. 4 Open the valve by turning it counterclockwise for a full turn. When the valve opens, the gauge on the regulator will show the amount of pressure in the cylinder. 5 Set the flow regulator knob to the flow rate you have been prescribed. 6 Attach tubing to the adaptor on the regulator.
